In the current auction we are pleased to offer one of the best collections of branded banknotes that has been offered at auction.
In this collection, we would put these 20 marks on the podium of the best banknotes.
The rarest variety of this already rare banknote (20 Polish marks issued 17.05.1919).
It belongs to only one series - K - and its characteristic feature is the separation of the numerator with a comma.
A banknote in issue condition, with such an excellent and fresh appearance that in this case, looking at the PMG bill, it was undervalued, even though the note is excellent.
It was issued by the Polska Krajowa kasa Pożyczkowa, an institution established on 7.12.1918 after Poland regained its independence, as a transitional institution that was to be replaced by the Bank of Poland proper.
The banknote itself of this variety, with a comma in the numbering, is a rather mysterious issue; after all, we have K-series banknotes at this denomination, but with numbering already without a comma. Here the reason for such a numbering scheme should be sought in the fact that this particular variety was printed in a different printing house than the others, i.e. in the Printing Works of Boleslaw Wirtz in Warsaw, and this numbering scheme was available there.
From the negligible number of pieces of this variety that have survived to this day (there are even no weak states), it can be concluded that the circulation of this variety was small.
