A beautifully preserved 5 mark 1940 Lodz Ghetto banknote.
A rare and sought-after denomination, printed on plain paper, type 1 numerator with one dash under the "o" in No and as in all known pieces of this variety (plain paper) we have the numbering overprint in red. The number sequence starting with 84XXXX , that is, it is a late printing of this denomination.
According to our opinion, two different colors of ink were not used when printing the numbering, the influence on the different color of the numerator over time was probably due to the very paper used for printing, in the case of the denomination of 5 marks 1940, where we have a cardboard paper and then we have the numbering on it in orange, and on plain paper we have the numbering in red.
From our observations of the listing of this variety, we noticed that the orange numbering occurs in the initial printing of this bill and on cardboard paper up to a certain number sequence in the numbering, where after that we only have printing with numbering in red but already on plain paper.
