A very rare item - a denarius with the letter N under the crown.
According to current knowledge, this is the 4th known piece.
The first one was described in 2010 by Jaroslaw Sim in Lublin Numismatic News, in the article titled "Denars of the First Jagiellons."Denars of the First Jagiellons". The second is a piece that appeared in theWDA-MiM 7/199 auction. The third piece is known to be in a private collection, so far not published in the literature.
The present piece, is the 4th of those currently known.
Despite the inferior minting of the reverse and the scarcity at the top of the obverse, it is in very good overall condition. The metal is sound, non-corroded. The most significant feature of the variety. i.e. the crown and the letter N stamped deeply. Beautifully legible.
A very attractive item.
Rarity.
Silver, diameter 12 mm.
