A token (token) made of Bakelite for use at NAAFI - National Army and Air Force Institutes, whose function was to supply military canteens to British troops both at home and abroad.
These Bakelite tokens were made as internal currency for British troops stationed in France during World War II, functioned only at NAAFI facilities and were used by both British and French soldiers, as well as Polish soldiers serving in the PSZnZ and stationed in France.
NAAFI was involved in the provision of military canteens, but a colloquial, simplified term for these tokens can be found that it is "military casino money."
The tokens according to the design displayed in this auction were in use for a short initial period due to their fine and poorly legible text on both sides. They were replaced by similar tokens with a larger font and clearer denomination markings.
Piece from the collection of Wojciech Jakubowski, one of the items sold at the ANMN auction under number 24/2021.
The diameter of the circle inscribed on the octagon of this token is 25.4 mm
Weight 0.94 g.
