Medal commemorating the second wedding of the Polish king Wladyslaw IV Vasa with the Mautanian princess Louise Maria Gonzaga
Marian Gumowski in 1938 wrote about it as follows:
"The above medal is known with us only from later casts, which are naturally much smaller than it should be. The original in silver, cast and chiseled, and measuring 69 mm in diameter is in the numism. cabinet in Paris. In turn, the casts found here are later, both in silver and bronze. In silver cast specimens were in the collections of Rewoliński in Radom and Zelt in Warsaw (64 mm)....
The author of the medal is unknown; he must have been a Frenchman from the school of Varin, a famous Parisian medalist of the time...."
The present piece is cast with a diameter of 64 mm, i.e. a later casting, but of very good quality.
Bronze, weight 58.9 g.
