A very nice piece of a medal from the royal series created by Johann Carl Hedlinger.
The type with a border decorated with a grid (rarer).
Comes with a card from an old collection.
The medal commemorates King Sigismund III, but does not give him a laurel, for as we read on the reverse:
"Born 1566, crowned 1594. Because papal priests and foreign troops disturbed the public peace, from Charles, Duke of Sudermania, expelled with the consent of the citizens. He died 1632."
