A ducat from the wreck of the Akerendam, which sank on its maiden voyage to Batavia, then a trading post of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in March 1725. There were a total of nearly 56.5 thousand coins on board including 6,624 gold ones. The entire mintage of 6,505 ducats from 1724 is believed to come from the Akerendam wreck. The coins were excavated from the seabed off the Norwegian island of Runde in July 1972 and in the summer of 1973.
Mint condition with a lot of mint luster. A deeply minted specimen.
